[YATO you are are way too close for comfort and Mikoto immediately backs away, trying to get at least arm's length away from him.

But first off, what???

How could have Yato known that he and Yuuko even knew each other in the first place? He was sure that he didn't tell him anything about her. Maybe she knew him somehow?]

[The blush on his face continues to grow redder now that he's brought up her name. Ding Ding, we have a winner!!]

[ That's what he's getting from this... Yato leans back, drags his glass of soda along with him, and grabs a slice of pizza. ]

That's fine.

[ He's hedging on Yuuko turning 18 before she and Mikoto really go anywhere serious... ]

[Well shoot. It's not like he could sit here and lie to Yato, he's evidentally already caught on somehow. He was still wondering how on earth did he even find out about his budding friendship with Yuuko.]

I guess it's more like... I think I'm pretty fond of her.

And I'd like the chance to get to know her more, since we met not too long ago.

Hasn't she cooked you a homemade meal already? That's basically a date.

[Date... The first time he heard those words from Yuuko, he couldn't believe that he actually went out on a date.

He found himself turning even more red at those words.]

[He's quiet as he takes another bite out of his pizza, as if he were taking in those words. There's a bit of reluctance in his voice when he finally speaks up. Honestly, he wasn't quite sure if he was ready to express his full feelings on this matter, but since Yato was talking about it. Maybe he could trust him.]

We uh, went on a Valentines Day date. [Of course, he's an idiot. So it took him some time for it to dawn on him that it was a date.]

[ Yato already knows about it... to be honest... which is why he barely reacts, instead happily munching on his pizza. ]

[Wow he's... really surprised? It's almost as if he knew or something.

Nah, that couldn't have been it.]

I liked it a lot. [A soft smile begins to form on his lips as he's thinking about it.] It was really relaxing.

I really enjoy being around her. I mean, I still feel nervous around her and it's like there are butterflies in my stomach. [However, he does feel like maybe that's different from his usual nervousness.] But... this is the first I've ever actually felt comfortable talking to a girl this quickly.

[ The smile on Mikoto's face says it all. And here Yuuko was worried that she wouldn't be able to stand out in his eyes. Yato is glad for her... and for Mikoto, too. Who'd have thought Mikoto would feel comfortable around the most aggressive flirt in all of Recolle? ]

I'm pretty sure that's what you'd call chemistry. Good for you. I know she likes your company too.

[Hearing that they had chemistry made his whole face heat up and it also made him stupidly happy to hear that. Never in a million years did he ever think that he would actually have good chemistry with a girl.

The next thing Yato says, nearly causes him to fall out of his chair.]

[He nearly choked on his soda when he said that. Calm down, Mikoto Mikoshiba!!]

[ Yato hasn't actually seen them together, but the way Yuuko acted when he mentioned Mikoto was kind of extraordinary... ]

What did you think? That she was just being polite?

[At Yato's question, Mikoto grows silent and looks down at his cup. He hadn't really thought about it. Deep down, he knew full well that she wasn't hanging around him just to be polite or because she felt sorry for him. It was that she genuinely enjoyed being around him.

It made him happy, beyond happy, even. He was just scared.
N-No I...

Cat really has got his tongue... or in this case, Yuuko.]

I mean, I think I knew that but I'm just... really nervous. [He sighs, knowing that he sounds like the most pathetic guy ever. Especially in front of Yato, of all people.] I've never gotten close with a girl this quick and I... don't really know what to do. The last thing I want to do is make her feel weird and I'm scared I'm going to scare her away from me.

[The age thing didn't help either.]

[ It's okay, Mikoto. You always sound like the most pathetic guy ever to Yato so this is nothing groundbreaking.

Yato is so straightforward about his feelings that he doesn't get this kind of talk at all... He leans back in his chair and sips on his soda while he listens. ]

What's there to do? Just keep being yourself around her. And if you think something needs to change, then change it! The problem with timid guys like you is that you're afraid to fail. No risk, no reward.

[Wow rude!! He's so offended!!!!

But in all honesty, as much as it killed him (Okay not really) to agree with Yato, he had to admit, he had a point. Even though he hated his shy timid self, if he were to start any kind of romantic relationship, he had to be himself.]

[It was a simple response but for once, he didn't have anything insulting to say, or fire back with an over the top reaction. Maybe it was the topic of this conversation that was making him feel calm, but even if he rarely showed his apprecation towards Yato, he had to admit.

He really did appreciate that the other male took the time the time to talk to him like this.]

You know why I bother talking to you, Mikoto? It's 'cause you're a decent guy -- and sure as hell not because I'm taken in by your cheesy pick-up lines. If you can get me to think you're good enough, then you're probably good enough.

[ Realtalk... Yato knows he can have a hard time making friends. So the few he does have is head and shoulders above the rest, as far as he's concerned. ]

Somehow, I feel flattered and insulted at the same time.

[Only Yato can pull off such a feat. But despite his expression, he really does feel grateful for what he had to say. It causes him to considerably cheer up, and he goes back to looking at Yato with how he normally looks at him.

Annoyance.

But there also might have been a hint of happiness mixed in with that. Maybe.]

Regardless... thanks. [He frowns, feeling really really embarrassed to admit this outloud.] I might be uh, feeling better now thanks to you. ... Maybe.

[ Yato picks up on that tiny bit of happiness... and doesn't comment on it directly for once because this is the man code. Men don't acknowledge that they feel sissy things like happiness!! ]
